Admission Requirements
For postgraduate studies in the department candidates must have
Admission Procedure
There are two semesters every year:
April - September
October - March
Application for admission to the above semesters are invited by the registrar through regular means of advertisement (national dailies / university notice boards / website/) usually in February/March and/or August/September.
Selection for admission is made through an oral and/or written test by a selection committee. The selected candidates must enroll themselves on payment of prescribed fees and other dues as per the university rules before the commencement of a semester.
All course registration must be completed within two weeks from the start of a semester.
Students may consult the postgraduate adviser or supervisor on academic/registration related matters.
Academic Requirements and Regulations
Ph. D. program: The duration for Ph. D. degree is minimum four semesters and maximum 6 academic years from the date of the first admission. A student must earn a minimum of 54 credit hours including a thesis of 45 credit hours.
Masters program: The duration for M.Sc. Engg./M. Engg. is minimum three semesters and maximum 5 academic years from the date of the first admission.
For M. Sc. Engg. degree a student must earn a minimum of 36 credit hours including a thesis of 18 credit hours.
For M. Sc. Engg. degree a student must earn a minimum of 36 credit hours including a thesis of 6 credit hours.
Both Ph. D. and Masters programs - A full time student (who is not employed anywhere even as a part time employee) is allowed to take a minimum of 12 credit hours and a maximum of 15 credit hours in a semester. A part time student is allowed to take a maximum of 9 credit hours in a semester.
The department offers 6-8 postgraduate courses every term, from a group of more than twenty approved courses. Theory courses needs to be chosen from those offered by the department in respective terms. Some courses may be compulsory for all students.
